PRESCHOOL and Pre-K

Preschool at the Children's Center helps build readiness skills, self-confidence and a love for learning.

Our Preschool program, for children 2 years 9 months up to 4 years, introduces a small child to that larger world outside of the home. We help children develop good personal habits and self help skills. We provide a secure and safe environment where children can feel free to experience new ideas. Skills in language, math, science and the arts are introduced in a hands-on open ended way. Social, gross and fine motor skills are developing at this age. The teachers help children learn how to interact socially with their peers, talk and play with their friends as well as taking turns and listening skills. By helping to develop self esteem and confidence, teachers provide the emotional security children need to develop curiosity and enjoyment in the process of learning.

Preschoolers are rapidly expanding their knowledge and mastery of the world around them. Our preschool program provides an enriched environment nourishing each child's development. Discovery areas, play areas and a well-planned day provide many exciting opportunities for individual exploration and both small and large group activities - with plenty of teacher encouragement throughout the day.

Learning Centers:

Every preschool room is divided into clearly defined learning areas, each offering a wide range of interesting materials and activities at a child's eye level.
A Language/Library Area filled with books and magazines.
A Math/Manipulatives Area with materials to encourage counting, grouping and sorting.

A Creative Arts Area to explore their budding creativity.
Dramatic Play Area for role-playing and pretending.
A Science Area for exploring basic concepts using simple materials, such as plants, magnets or small pets.

PRE-K PROGRAM

Our Pre-Kindergarten program, for children 4 to 5 years, continues to build and enrich children's skills and strengths. Gross and fine motor skills are refined. Cognitive and critical thinking skills are continuing to develop. Pre-reading, early math, science and social studies activities are introduced. Our goal is to help your child find out what their interests are and develop them, as well as try our new experiences. We are working towards developing life-long learners as your child develops into a unique individual in this complex world.

Outdoor fun:

This is a highlight for most young children - especially when the equipment and toys are age appropriate. The entire play area available to the preschoolers is a fenced, secure environment with constant supervision.

Your child can choose from a variety of outdoor activities, including nature study, and imaginative play - along with some great sliding, climbing, riding, and much more.

Every day is carefully structured to provide children with a balanced routine for learning, growing, and enjoying their day. Short, focused group activities are alternated with individual playtime, small group interactions and rest periods to keep everyone smiling, playing and learning.
